science

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals
Definition of the solution:
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)

Definition of saturated:
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)

In groups of three you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.

What crystals worked out best and why?:
borax crystal is the best crystal because it was bigger and also is so fun.

Conclusion:
Making crystal was so fun because you can see what going on when you finding the crystal. also making crystal was need some time to see the crystal.

Explain how the following crystals are formed:

Type
Explanation
Salt
Image result for salt crystal
when the water evaporates from the solution, then the Na and Ci bond together,  then the molecules from the water evaporates bond together, every time when the molecule forms, the shape of the molecule are the same.

Sugar
Image result for sugarcrystal

when the water evaporates, then the solution becomes saturated and sugar, then molecules will keep come out of the solution and also collect on the seed crystals on the string, the rock candy crystals grow molecule by molecule.

Snowflakes

when the cold water droplets freeze on pollen or dust particles in the sky then snowflakes begin to form when extremely, snowflakes  have six arms.

science

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Image result for filtration science experiment
Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  oil
  2.  air
  3.  pool
  4. water

Materials

1.funnel
2.fiten paper
3.container
4.dirty water
5.sand
6.cup
7.little rocks
8.science

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle.....cut the bottle into half and waiting to use

Step 2

Put the top half upside down ....... put the top half upside down into the other half.

STEP 3

Add layers of... first, add layers of sand, then add some of the little rocks upon the sand (use a cup to do this.)

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water .......get 1cup dirty that from your garden then put some grass or some dirty thing into the cup
STEP 5
Pour the dirty water into ...... pour the dirty water into the half bottle that you have put sand and little rocks in.

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:1.at the first minute it was going fast.2.but at the second minute it was going slowly.3.At the third minute, the water was much slower than last time and also is a little more clear.4. At the fourth minute then water was much more clear than last time.5. At the five minutes, the water was going slower than last time, it was like 10 seconds, then come out one point water.
Water color: The color of the water was like orange.also it is not clear.
Conclusion: filtration is like oil, pool, water, and air. it was going fast when you put the water in the bottle, but then the water was slowly come out of the half bottle.

Today you will be a Forensic Chemist.

A bag of white powder has been confiscated by airport customs.  You need to find out what white powder it is?

Aim: To learn about the makeup of different white powders.

Image result for white powder in piles

There are a number of different white powders in our everyday life. Some of these are harmful and others are not. Test the four white powders listed to see which one has been found at the airport.

You will be given a small amount of 4 white powders on your cardboard. On the black cardboard using a magnifying glass look at the powders.
Look at them under your magnifying glass and record what you see.

These are the four powders we will be using. Upload a photo of each powder.

1.  Cornflour
2.  Baking Soda
3.  Salt
4.  Sugar

Before you add the iodine, vinegar or water you will need to divide each powder into 3.

Materials

1.  sugar
2.  baking soda
3.  salt
4.  cornflour
5.  water
6.   vinegar
7. paper
8.magnifier
9 pipette
10. iodine

Steps

1. Fold the paper into 4 square
2. get a magnifier
3. write salt, baking soda sugar in each square
4. put in the ingredients that your words
5. use magnifier to look salt, sugar, baking soda and cornflour
6.

Write a conclusion about your findings. ( 4 plus sentences)
Use the Hexagon activity to give you some more ideas.

The sugar...... The sugar does not have very strong smell Sugar's grains was not very big it was just like medium, if you put water, iodine and vinegar, then that is all going to be absorbed

The salt..... The salt is the same with sugar salt are also is all absorbed.

The Baking Soda...... you cant smell baking soda very well, also baking soda is deafened to other, because if you put iodine on it then it was going to be fizzed, and if you put water on there then that was going to be absorbed, also if you put vinegar in there then it were be frothed, but other three are all the same, when you put water, vinegar and iodine.

The cornflour.....The cornflour are all the same when you put water , vinegar and iodine in.

Do all the same experiments on the mystery white powder. What is it?

science fly

Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.

  • In your groups of 3, you will make a paper plane and measure its distance and behavior.Image result for flight forces

  • In groups of 3, you will make a water rocket and record its distance and behavior.
Definition: the action of flying through the air or process.

4 forces of flight:

  1.   Gravity
  2.    Drag
  3.   Weight
  4.   Thrust

Paper Plane:

Material:

1. pepper
2. ruler

Steps:

1.  fold your pepper in half
2 fold each of the top comes into the center line
3. fold the top into the center line.
4. fold each of the tops comes into the center line

Findings:

Plane Type
Distance
Behavior
Normal
2.7 metersstraight line

Ailerons
3.0 meterscurved

Paper clip

3.8 metersstraight line

Conclusion:
At today science I have make a paper plan with my friend, and my normal paper plane was flying to 2.7 meters, then I was trying flying more distance with my ailerons plan then I get 3 meters, and at last, I use paper clip plan to flying 3.8 meters.
At today science I have learned four forces flight are thrust, drag, gravity, and weight, I also know if you use a paper clip to fly then you will get the distance one of normal, ailerons and paper clip.
The normal paper plane was the recent one, then ailerons were distance than the normal paper plane, also paper clip paper plane was more distance than the ailerons. So normal paper plane was the very recent one, then ailerons were the second recent one, and the paper clip paper plane was the distance one. because when I fly the normal paper plane there were some weight so the paper plane was going down, so normal paper plane was the recent one, because there were some thrust when I fly the ailerons paper plane so it was going distance, but ailerons paper plane was not the distance one, because there was some lift and thrust so when I fly the paper clip paper plane was the distance one in these three.
